TERMS OF SERVICE
Last Updated: August 30, 2026
Welcome to the NYC Hong Kong Mahjong Community network ("the Platform," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing, browsing, or using this website, filling out our assessment forms, or participating in any community-organized games, meetups, or events, you agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Platform, you affirm that you are at least 18 years of age and fully competent to enter into these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately cease using the Platform and refrain from participating in any affiliated events or player placements.
2. Nature of the Community Platform
Informational & Facilitative Only: The Platform operates solely as an informational resource and community hub designed to facilitate player introductions, skill assessments, table placements, and public meetup announcements across New York City.
No Direct Ownership of Venues: Unless explicitly stated, we do not own, operate, manage, or control the third-party venues, private residences, commercial spaces, or public spots where community games take place.
Independent Participants: All participants, hosts, table organizers, and players act independently. We do not employ event organizers or verify the background of community members.
3. Strict Compliance with Gambling Laws
No Gambling Facilitation: This Platform is exclusively dedicated to the cultural, social, and strategic enjoyment of Hong Kong Mahjong.
Zero Tolerance: The Platform strictly prohibits the use of its communication channels, matchings, or events for illegal gambling, commercial wagering, or any activities that violate Federal, New York State, or New York City laws.
Points Play & Traditional Scoring: Matches organized through our community frameworks operate under traditional scoring/points structures (e.g., tally sticks, point chips, or scoring apps) strictly for tracking game progress and skill placement. Any financial arrangements or side wagers made between individual players are strictly prohibited at community events and are undertaken entirely at the participants' own risk and legal liability.
4. Code of Conduct & Player Placements
Accurate Self-Assessment: When completing skill questionnaires or table placement forms (e.g., scoring rules, fan calculations, game speed), you agree to provide accurate information to ensure fair and enjoyable gameplay for all skill levels.
Respectful Environment: Members must maintain sportsmanship, respect host venue rules, and treat fellow players, staff, and organizers with courtesy. Discrimination, harassment, physical intimidation, or disruptive behavior will result in immediate and permanent exclusion from the Platform and future events.
Right of Refusal: We reserve the right to decline placement, remove postings, or ban any individual from community channels at our sole discretion, without prior notice.
5. Limitation of Liability & Waiver of Claims
READ CAREFULLY: This section limits the legal liability of the Platform and its organizers.
Voluntary Participation: Your participation in any game night, meetup, social gathering, or table placement facilitated through the Platform is completely voluntary. You assume all risks associated with attendance and participation, including but not limited to personal injury, illness, property loss, or theft.
General Disclaimer: To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Platform, its founder(s), organizers, volunteers, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with:
Your use of or inability to use the website or forms.
Any conduct, action, or inaction of any third party, player, host, or venue.
Any personal injury, property damage, or financial dispute occurring at a host site, private residence, or third-party venue.
Any inaccuracy in player self-assessments, table placements, or event listings.
Indemnification: You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Platform, its founders, and organizers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your conduct at community meetups, or your breach of applicable local laws.
